What does it feel like to emerge from a chrysalis?

This student shared with us how it felt being in the chrysalis.

The student shared that it was warm being wrapped up. She felt like she could not move! She wondered if she were making changes while being wrapped up!

Ta Da!  While her "wings" are dry and not real, she emerges as a free butterfly!

Students created a representation of the life cycle as well.

See our butterflies in action!

Up Next! Living/NonLiving in Science

Students will build their background knowledge after spring break by using the following Padlet! During our literacy center time, on the iPad, students will use the Padlet to learn more information about metamorphosis!

Students will be distinguishing characteristics of living and nonliving things. We will then look at the life cycle of butterflies and frogs.
Yesterday, we visited Mrs. Burks classroom in Fourth Grade to see her frog friends!

She has had the tadpoles since September. Here you can see the tails. They have legs too!

Here are our "future" butterflies. The Painted Lady caterpillars are slowly getting bigger. They will shed their exoskeleton a few times. We will be observing these little caterpillars with a close eye!
