Day 5 Germination

Here you can see our Pea and Bean seeds. Today, we transplanted them into soil.
We will have a control group (Pea #2 and Bean #2) and experimental group (Pea #1 and
Bean #1). The question is Which seed will have the most growth? Why?
One will be limited with sun exposure but will have a "sun roof". What happens? We will
keep you posted!

Using Pictures to Help us Think About What Happens

Students are reading the story Pumpkin, Pumpkin by Jeanne Titherington. We worked on how we can use the pictures to help us think about the story. This story is about growing a pumpkin and its life-cycle. Students recalled "mental images" from the book and then after repeated readings, modeled how those pictures can help us with retelling the story in sequence!

National Bus Safety week October 20-24

Which gave us more information?

For the past few weeks, we have been starting each new Shared Reading Book with a glance of looking at the cover and listening to the title of the book. Then, we predict what kinds of words we might encounter within the text. Today, we charted those words in black, based only on the cover and the title. Then, we did our Book Walk. This is when we "walk through the book and look at the pictures to predict what the story is about. However, today, the focus was on what kinds of words we might encounter as we read the book. Those words are charted in blue.  After reading the book, we realized that our predictions were more accurate by doing the book walk than only looking at the cover and title of the book.  This reinforces how important it is to preview a book before reading!

5th Grade Vocabulary Word Parade!

Wow! Fifth graders really worked hard introducing us to some new words! Thanks for visiting us!
Please note, we added the music because our class felt that music was needed when you march in a parade!
